Artistic Residency – Digital Art
Residency is the name given to dwellings and places where people live. Artistic Residency, on the other hand, means living in a place where a new production process will be developed. It is art in dialog with the context in which it is inserted. Interaction with the environment and the people there results in new knowledge and propositions. From May 15 to June 3, 8 artists selected for this program will share with the public the evolution of their digital art projects, which will then be exhibited. A collective and collaborative production that arises from various connections.
Those connections are reveale in the digital/material, among culture, design and heritage, and between technology and people. The basis will be Portinari's panel called “Civilização Mineira” (1959), which will come off the walls of Casa Fiat de Cultura, linking its colors, lines and inspirations to the urban scene of Belo Horizonte, in an interface between materiality/virtuality. From the very beginning, the project was based on collaborations. The first collaboration happened with a reference name to curate the show. Pablo Gobira, professor of postgraduate studies in Arts at the Guignard School (UEMG), shared an contemporary art and academic perspective as an inspiring source for broadening and deepening artistic experiences. The second collaboration involved CASACOR, which, with a creative eye, has transformed the residence into a welcoming and stimulating space for artists and the public to experience the Culture Centre. The architects involved with the creative connections were Paulo Augusto Campos and Sarah Floresta. This collective production became tangible with those selected for Artist Residency. They accepted the challenge of a transdisciplinary journey of collaborative experimentation to rethink the museum space in cyberspace. The Fab Lab at Isvor (Corporate University of FCA-Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) comes in to think up new technological possibilities and materialize the ideas proposed within the concept. A place that values the empowerment of participants and becomes a space for developing skills for innovation, collaboration and leadership. The cycle is completed with the public who, in this proposal, are included in the debate about the museum in the contemporary world. This project is part of the 16th Museum Week, with Hyperconnected Museums as its theme. We believe that a new, mixed-reality perspective, which combines material collections, life in the city, history and digital languages come together, is one of the ways of expanding the concept of the museum as a place of contemplation to become a place of connection, of new experiences, transmuting the public from spectator to interlocutor and creators of the space itself. |
