ABOUT
Part of OCAD, the biggest university of art, design and media in Canada, the Data Materialization Studio conducts research into the affective, aesthetic and theoretical implications of emerging modes of data materialization. Drawing upon practice-based methods grounded within aesthetics, our projects work to expose and critically analyse the material processes that mediated between the physical supports of computation and the digital phenomena that they articulate.

OUR PARTNERSHIP
OCAD University is our partner through DATA MATERIALIZATION STUDIO, that is doing research on the affective, aesthetic and theoretical implications of the emerging ways of data materialization. Prof. Dr. Lynne Heller coordinates the project AVATAR DAUGHTERS: THE SPECTRUM OF MATERIAL/VIRTUAL THROUGH FEMINIST LENSES, where she's leading the research using the structures based on practical (fine arts) and theoretical (historical art and feminist art) aspects in order to explore the spectrum of material/virtual. The corresponding relationship, artist/avatar, is also a spectrum between Me and Not - subject and object at the same time. LabFronter Antônio Mozelli is currently working in this project through the Canadian scholarship ELAP where he is an active member of the lab conducting researches alongside Dr. Lynne. She has been a part of our production before through her chapter, One for Sorrow: A handmade virtual reality, in the book Contemporary Routes - Art, science and technology's reality, and she ministered the opening speech in 2018 Digital Art's Seminar, titled "LGBTQ+, an alphabet soup of gender, art and virtuality".
