SAIA
Pablo Gobira
"Saia" is an art installation in immersive virtual reality. It is an interactive installation that is part of the series of installations entitled "Olhar aprisionado" (Imprisoned gaze). In the installation the imprisonment of the gaze expands to the imprisonment of the interactor's body, which will be inside a box in the physical environment of the installation. To access the immersive virtual reality device, the interactor will have to sit inside a cube of acrylic, glass or other transparent material. Inside this cube, the interactor will use the immersive virtual reality device and will be able to see himself inside a mirror of that situation in which he finds himself in physical reality, inside the installation in virtual reality. With the series of works we investigate the relations between sensoriality and the existing limits in the dialogue of the representation of a human body in transformation, and the lack of control in the face of bodily transformations. The operation of the installation has: as data input the movements made through the interactor's head; and as output the actions in the installation's cyberspace. The sound design was made using voice synthesis software for reading and recombining a poem. This poem was written by one of the artists (Pablo Gobira) and was worked with machine algorithms. In the physical environment, as well as inside the virtual environment, the poem will be visible on the top of the box, and can be read only by those who are inside the installation in the physical space and in the virtual space. For the installation it is necessary that the interactor uses a stereoscopic binocular device that provides the immersion (VR case) and headphones. At the installation exhibition it is necessary that the device is connected to a power source to keep it charged. When not in use, it will remain at rest inside the acrylic case, fixed by some nylon wire or thin steel cable to the ceiling of the glass cube. |
