PANORAMA
The exhibition Panorama is part of the activities of the 5th edition of Seminário de Artes Digitais (The Digital Arts Seminar), which is an international congress where participating researchers present - in plenary sessions and in simultaneous working groups - their studies within themes that explore the relationships between art, science and technology. The event has been held annually since 2015, uninterruptedly.
The exhibition of artistic works preserves one of the traditions of the congress that, since its very first edition, promotes artistic and cultural actions within its programme. The congress is part of the annual academic calendar in Brazil and has been repeatedly recognized by funding agencies such as the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) and Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq). The Panorama exhibition intends to present new approaches, show proposals, insert in the debate of the arts more possibilities of artistic production that relate art with science and technology. As an exhibition of installations, interactive installations, games, videos and performances, the exhibition also presents a horizon of possibilities of relationship between the fields of (artistic/creative) production. Allowing oneself to see beyond is the proposal we make to visitors. In the exhibition we find works that promote the glimpse of relationships between current and local living conditions and artistic making, as well as encourage speculation about: forms of living and dressing, different ways of living and relating to the environment and history, whether through a broad, aerial point of view or a view from the ground, from the everyday human. Walking through the skies of this exhibition we see projections in which the use of technologies and scientific knowledge happens, in fact, in relation to an artistic research and not as a mere search for novelty. The works that we present to the visitor along the possible paths present cumulative knowledge, spaces and times, acquired in individual or collective artistic research by the artists. The works, therefore, must be recognized as researches and, in some cases, these researches can be understood as an ongoing process. Thus, they fit into a particular moment in which we find ourselves in the field of arts in which the relationships between art, science and technology are seen beyond the fact of merely positioning oneself between being against or in favour of the use of technology or scientific knowledge. Therefore, we seek to demonstrate that it is possible to compose relationships that go beyond the surface, beyond the image, but that explore the uses, the possibilities. We therefore invite everyone to visit not only the works of art, but also to enter the world of the artists and their particular panoramas. Pablo Gobira Curator |
